A customer in the aviation industry needed a custom engine strap manufactured for a structural part for use on pylons. Southern Precision Machining was contracted to perform all of the required work, which included the extensive machining and shot peening of titanium 6AL4V material. State of the art twin spindle 3-axis CNC machinery was employed for this process, which featured mill fixtures and vacuum workholding. The thin titanium skins were constructed holding a surface profile tolerance of .030". Shot peening and cleaning procedures were performed to create the desired finish. CMM validation was rendered to assure accuracy and quality standards were met.

Forty-eight engine straps were completed after a turnaround time of 16 weeks, with a standing orders sent to the customer annually. Finished dimensions of the strap were 100" length, 30" width, and a thickness of .5".
